On the beach were 1 raven, 3 curlew, oyster’s and various gulls

Tutt Head Seawatch
Seawatch between 08:10 and 10:45
Highlight was a s/pl red-throated diver that flew west at 09:02.
Otherwise: 6 common scoter, 7 gannet, 3 shag, 2 Manx shearwater, 1 fulmar, 1 auk spp and 8 oystercatcher. All except oycs and 1 gannet west.
Wheatear
There was a single Wheatear in the dunes along Swansea Beach opposite St. Helen’s this evening – the first I’ve seen along here this Autumn.
Blackbird

Blackbird spotted by Lynda and Richard Lee ,two of our Rudry Common Trust volunteers. Photo taken in her garden in Waterloo, nr Rudry back in July. The bird remained all summer and offspring produced were ‘pied’.

60+ House Martin over the Common this evening , at least 70 Chiffchaff and, in newly ploughed field ajoining the Common 45+ Mistle Thrush (most seen here by far for me) Spooked by a sprawk and all flew East. With the Mountain Ash laden with berries all bodes well for the start of the second season for BTO thrushes survey which begins tomorrow.
North Cardiff
Lisvane: 1 greylag and 1 hybrid among 96 Canadas, 10 gc grebes included 2 stripy-headed young, 12 little grebes, 66 tufties, no pochard at the moment, 18 mallards, 16 coots, 2 cormorants, 1 kingfisher.
Llanishen: 2 teal, 2 mutes, 3 mallard, green woodpecker and male sparrow hawk.
Roath: 1 kingfisher, 2 teal, 2 wigeon, 131 Canadas, juv LBB gull yellow K+V, gs woodpecker etc.

My only two usable photos of yesterday’s yellow wagtail at Lisvane, which Dave Boyle points out is quite grey and stripy… unfortunately the views were brief and distant, and no calls were heard.

Cardiff Bay
4 Wheatear on the barrage rocks lunchtime with 10 Linnet over.
Another single Wheatear at the beginning of Plas Taliesin with 5 Turnstone.
Cosmeston
GBC monthly walk with 5 participants. Highlights – 2 Spotted Flycatchers (hedgerow of southern field by Sully Brook), 1 fem Pied Flycatcher nr the dragon tree in Cogan Wood (uncommon bird here) [but no Marsh tit], 1 Wheatear on high ground above dragonfly pond. Also 1 ad and 1 imm Green ‘Pecker and now 21 Tufted Duck. Leps – 2 Small Copper in the south field ref’d to above. Also a lot of Chiffchaff 20+.
PS just been reminded by Matthew Binding (as he spotted it!) we had a rapid Kingfisher fly-by along the edge of said field, parallel to Sully Brook.

Lisvane: 1 juv yellow wagtail, 1 green sand still on the E shore, 1 kingfisher, 2 teal.
Llanishen: 6 teal.
Roath Park Lake: 2 wigeon, 1 teal

2 yellow wagtails on the approach road to the car park
Lots of birds in the valley but the majority were finches. A couple of black caps, chiff chaffs and meadow pipits also present.
Very quiet on the clifftop to Cwm Nash the highlight being 2 chough and a raven
Gileston Beach
Adult winter-plumaged Mediterranean Gull on Gileston beach this morning.
Lavernock Pt
Visited again solo – thought the rain might’ve grounded a few bits & bobs. Nowhere near as many hirundines as yesterday. Birch tree by Church House had at least 6 Chiffchaff, 1 fem Blackcap and 2 Long-t-Tit. Coat path had 1 County Recorder :-), 1 male Blackcap briefly, 1 fem/imm Common Whitethroat and a few Goldfinch. Also 1 Holly Blue pointed out to me my DRWG, and I also saw a Clouded Yellow in the fenced off scrubby paddock behind the big house.
