Yellow-legged Gull influx

There were 2 juv Y-l Gulls on the scrape at WWT this morning (plus later the Spoonbill & Lesser Yellowlegs appeared). Called in at Loughor Bridge on the way back and there was an adult and another juv YLG there too. RHAT informs me there was a 3rd summer bird at WWT yesterday, so at least 5 in the Burry in the last 2 days. The waders at WWT have been spending a lot of time feeding on the Glamorgan side the last few days. Rob had 675 Blackwits and the Ruff on the mudflats off Dalton’s Point this morning. I saw the godwit flock last night also plus 5 Knot and a s/p Grey Plover. Let’s hope the Yellowlegs with follow suite eventually.

Kenfig Saltmarsh and Crymlyn Burrows (3/8/13)

The Kenfig saltmarsh looked perfect for waders yesterday, but none could be found. A Little Egret there of note. In the Reedbed pools nearby 88 Mallards were present. The marginal scrub near the footbridge held a loose mixed-flock of Stonechat (8) and Reed Buntings (13)

The pools on Morfa Tip held a Little Grebe and a Dunlin.

Crymlyn Burrows was still holding good numbers of waders. Ringed Plover (198), Knot (4), Sandering (327) and Dunlin (55). No terns in the bay but a mixed flock of gulls included Black-headed Gull (15), Mediterranean Gull (8) and Kittiwake (6)

Posting photos

Hi all

Just a quick msg. I’ve put some notes on methods of inserting images in posts, on the Instructions page. If you like to add images cd you take a peek at this as there are some restrictions for us on storage so file size/dimensions needs to be kept low. Apologies to those who have already sussed out the best way. Cheers.

Sorry to put up this rather sad post but the youngster in the photos was found, sadly demised, on my patio next to the bird feeder.

The question is, what is it?

First thoughts might be a young robin or dunnock as there are youngsters of both species in the garden. None, however, with the reddy-brown rump and tail feathers.

Black legs and bill match young redstart but not in a north Cardiff garden surely?

All suggestions gratefully received.
