Certainly looks lik a Clouded Yellow – there are loads about. I had double figures at Cosmeston the other day. It is v pale – could be the pale ‘helice’ type female.
Many thanks for your comments. I realise that this taxon is complexed. I looked up the Helice for that you suggest and it could well be that. It only occurs in females and is influenced by dry conditions, which is certainly right this year.
I saw it again today at the reservoirs, a man there said, like me, that initially he thought it was a Marble White until it landed. I managed a few more pics but unfortunately no upper-wing ones.
I am sure you are correct, but I will send it off to the British Natural History Museum to see what they say.
We had good view of Small-red-eyed Damselfly but no luck with Lesser Emperor.
