Lots of activity tonight had Whitethroat, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiff chaff, Cettis, Bullfinch a few Swallows and a Swift… and a stunning sunset!

Big Birding Day – Kenfig
Don’t forget that it’s the Big Birding Day at Kenfig this Sunday. (starting 10 a.m.) The forecast is good. There’ll be guided bird walks. a ringing demonstration, moth trap, children’s activities, and cake, plant and book stalls.
CBWR
Lsr Whitethroat present again and showing quite well along the boardwalk and in the bushes around the yacht club, but soon flew away in the direction of the flyover 08:30.
Hendre Lake
this morning at Hendre Lake; Reed Warblers,Sedge Warblers,1-Spotted Flycatcher,lots of Whitethroats,Cetti’s Warblers and Blackcaps.
Grangemoor Park etc
Whitethroat singing; Lesser Whitethroat singing just outside northern edge; Sedge Warbler singing just outside boundary. Ely Trail- Cetti’s Warbler singing in reed beds closer towards Leckwith Hill. Sanatorium Park, Whitethroat singing.
Forest Farm
25 species at Forest Farm this afternoon, including blackcap, bullfinch, long tailed tit, reed warbler(could have been sedge!) Two sets of moorhen chicks, 6 swift over the centre towards the river, about 10 house martin flying off towards Asda. Great tit hopped into the hide with no door-it now has a door- while we were there!

1 Singing wood warbler, 2 singing blackcap, 1 drumming great-spotted woodpecker
Plus plenty of chiff-chaff and willow warbler singing
Cardiff Barrage Coast Path
Lsr Whitethroat singing this morning near the two picnic tables by the dog-leg in the path, and seen to fly across the dock to bushes beyond the World of Boats by the side of Doctor Who.
KNNR to Sker Farm and Point
Fairly quiet this morning but still logged 47 Whimbrel, 2 Golden Plover (1 almost in full summer plumage), 1 Bar-tailed godwit (in with the Whimbrel) and at least 12 Wheatear. A Swift was over the golf course mid-morning. Other than that, plenty of Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Blackcap and Stonechat on the way through the reserve and golf course, with small numbers of Swallow starting to trickle through.
Cardiff bay
Two Garden Warblers in trees near the play area in Britannia Park, also one Sedge Warbler. Lesser Whitethroat singing from bushes beyond Dr Who building.
One Spotted Flycatcher in bushes set back on N side of Windsor Esplanade.
Grangemoor Park/CBWR
Lsr Whitethroat still showing well around the two infinis installations. In CBWR 8 Sedge and 6 Reed Warblers singing.Lsr Scaup still present.
Ely Trail
Lesser Whitethroat singing between Leckwith Hill and Penarth Road along the trail. Two Cetti’s Warblers (each over half a mile apart) singing.

Gwrhyd and Baran Ridges
Walked over these two upland ridges on saturday April 30th.Species seen. Chiffchaff,Willow Warbler,Blackcap,Greenfinch,Goldfinch,Jackdaw,Reed Bunting,Meadow Pipit,Wheatear,Skylark,Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker,Swallow,House Martin,Sand Martin,Swift(first of the year for me),Cuckoo(calling at three locations,Rhydyfro,Lygos and Cwm Clydach),Red Kite,Raven,Buzzard,Pied Wagtail,Dipper,Woodpigeon,Magpie.
Rudry Common
Cuckoo heard calling in the drizzle this afternoon. Also good numbers of Skylark, Meadow Pipit and Tree Pipit

A wheatear perched on a neighbours roof was surprise during lunch today!!
Dyffryn Gardens
Early start today. I led a dawn chorus walk (15 participants). 32 species logged, the highlights being Kestrel, two Green Woodpeckers and three Great Spotted Woodpeckers (one drumming). A pleasing note was that Greenfinch numbers appear to be well up on previous years.
